Project management on a human scale

15 January, 2021

Would you invest in a business that had a success rate lower than 30%? That is, however, the
reality for organizations when they start up their projects.

If your organization were going to invest a million dollars in a project, there is a 70% probability, or
even higher, of having to invest those million dollars and have to incur additional cost overruns – both
tangible and intangible – of close to 60% (some US$600,000 in my example) so as to be a “successful”
project. But even worse, there is a 21% probability of losing the whole investment including the cost
overruns.

During this last year, we have in this blog been
arguing for ways to revert those very low possibilities of having a successful project by applying a
methodology centered on the human factor. Something we denominate as Project Management
on a human scale.

Project Management on a human scale is based on applying methodological rigor to the
human dimension in managing projects. This is how we can substantially increase their probability of
success and thereby achieve a favorable return on investment, and strengthening the various universal
project management methodologies in use today.

The book 10 Elements for Successful Organizational Transformations, written by Alfonso
Carvajal Valli explains and amplifies this new proposal.

The book is available (in Spanish) at the Librería Nacional (National Bookstore)
at all its stores in Colombia and on its website www.librerianacional.com
